SOLUTION FOCUSED
Learning Space uses a solution focused approach with children and parents. As its name implies this model of working is more interested in exploring solutions than in trying to understand problems.

The underlying assumptions of solution focused thinking are:

  1. attempting to understand the cause of a problem is not a necessary or a particularly useful step towards change
  2. however fixed the problem pattern may appear there are always times when it is not happening
  3. sometimes only the smallest of changes is needed as a catalyst for further change

Learning Space practitioners use these guiding principles in their work

  • See the person as more than their problem
  • Look for strengths and resources rather than deficits
  • Explore possible futures
  • Explore what is already contributing to these futures
  • Treat people as the experts in their own lives
